Prof. KIM Jeong Bon
Professor Jeong-Bon Kim joined the Department of Accountancy, City University of Hong Kong in July 2017 as Chair Professor of Accountancy, with concurrent appointment as Acting Head. Prior to joining CityU, he was a tenured full Professor and J. Page R. Wadsworth Chair in Accounting and Finance, School of Accounting and Finance, University of Waterloo where he also served as the Ph.D. Program Director. Professor Kim has been Honored Professor at the School of Management, Fudan University, Distinguished Honorary Professor at the Business School of Sun Yat-sen University, and Distinguished Professor at the Institute of International Business and Governance, The Open University of Hong Kong. He obtained his BBA and MSc. in Accounting degrees from Seoul National University, and his Ph.D. degree from Temple University. Previously, he worked as Chair Professor of Accountancy with concurrent appointment as the Head of the Department of Accountancy at City University of Hong Kong for six years (2009 to 2015). Professor Kim also worked as Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance at John Molson School of Business (JMSB), Concordia University. He worked for many years at the School of Accounting and Finance, the Faculty of Business, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he was the Head for the (then) Department of Accountancy, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Programs and Research) for the Faculty of Business, with a concurrent appointment as Acting Head for the School of Accounting and Finance. He began his full-time career as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Syracuse University, New York. He also taught at Seoul National University on a visiting basis. Professor Kim served as Vice President-at-large of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research and as a founding council member of the Hong Kong Academic Accounting Association. Professor Kim is a prolific researcher and has published over 90 refereed journal articles, including those in The Accounting Review; Journal of Accounting and Economics; Journal of Accounting Research; Journal of Financial Economics; Review of Accounting Studies; Contemporary Accounting Research; Journal of International Business Studies; Financial Management; Journal of Corporate Finance; Journal of Banking and Finance; Journal of Empirical Finance; Journal of Business Research; Auditing: Journal of Practice and Theory; Journal f International Accounting Research; Journal of Information System; Journal of Accounting and Public Policy; Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance; and Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting. He is widely known as one of pioneer researchers on the causes and consequences of stock price crash risk. Professor Kim is currently one of the editors for Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics, an associate editor for Journal of Contemporary Accounting Research, and has served on the editorial board of Contemporary Accounting Research, Auditing: Journal of Practice & Theory; and Journal of International Accounting Research. Professor Kim is currently one of the two chief editors for China Journal of Accounting Research. He was one of the two chief editors of China Accounting and Finance Review. He supervised many Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows who are currently teaching at leading business schools in major universities in Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Norway.
